Great American Taxi
Boulder, CO
Great American Taxi’s big sound blending rock n' roll, down-home Americana and full flavored country boasts an epic all-star lineup: Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon (guitar/vocals), Chad Staehly of the John McKay Band and Canine Unit (keyboards/vocals), Jefferson Hamer of the Single Malt Band and Wayfarers (guitar/vocals/mandolin/banjo), Jake Coffin (drums/vocals) and Brian Schey (bass/vocals) of Dan Bern and Fraga.
Great American Taxi is based on Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon’s “fantasy” lineup of local Boulder, Colorado musicians who collaborated to perform at an environmental benefit in the spring of 2005. Chad Staehly, a spectacular keyboardist who’s played in numerous music projects over the years, is the man responsible for gathering all these performers together to hit the road Taxi style.
Jake Coffin was traveling and recording with singer/songwriter Dan Bern for the past few years until he recently returned home to the Boulder area and got to know Staehly in the John McKay Band. Jake is one of the area's best drummers and consistently brings his good nature, energy and humor into everything he does. Brian Schey, Fraga founder, bassist and long time friend and band mate of Jake’s, also performs in the Dan Bern Band. He has been playing bass and producing records for 15 years with 60 albums under his belt. Jefferson Hamer of Single Malt Band is a true professional in every sense of the word. A multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire, Jeff plays electric and acoustic guitar, banjo and mandolin. Eben Grace of Dan Bern, special guest and pedal steel player, hops into the Taxi when he can, giving it a little extra twang and grit. Together, this incredible band delivers a performance charged with rich vocal harmonies and textures, a unique rock-folk-reggae-funk-country sound and clever lyrics.
With Vince Herman’s festive spirit, exceptional musicianship and band leader qualities accompanied by the rest of the crew’s phenomenal talents, Great American Taxi is sure to be the next "big thing" to come out of Boulder. Now that this Taxi is heading down the road, there’s no stopping it – catch a ride while you can!
